This modern drama centres around the lives of four people in their early twenties. Life remains relatively uncomplicated with the two couples, Lola and Alfio, Angie and Sam, drifting towards a settled future not unlike the lives of their families. The certainty of their lives is shattered, when Lola, a free spirit, seduces Alfio's best friend Sam and awakens an intense passion.
Through his brief furtive affair with Lola, Sam destroys the trusting friendship he has shared with Alfio since childhood and comes to the realisation that his relationship with Angie is meaningless, Riddled with guilt, he decides to join the army, ostensibly to make something of his life.
Opting for financial security, Lola marries Alfio in the hope that she may change him. Angie. naively believing that Sam's distance is only to further his career, begins visiting Sam's mother. On leave from the army, Sam rejects Angle's love and resumes his affair with the now married Lola. Angie unwittingly discovers the truth and, in a fit of jealousy, tells Alfio of the betrayal
Enraged, Alfio takes his revenge on the banks of the Merri Creek where once the two boys played as friends. |
