Postcards from Italy
Documentary
Rosa Colosimo Pty Ltd
For centuries artists, tourists, writers, academics and adventurers have come to Italy to spend a few weeks or months absorbing the country's ancient culture and lyrical beauty. Many of these casual visitors end up settling in Italy. For decades Australians have joined this migration.
Migration in Australia has always been understood to mean immigration. This documentary looks at the other side of the coin - emigration, and asks why, despite a legacy of resources that has led to the description of "Oz" as the "lucky country" as well as Australian life becoming more cosmopolitan, there is an increasing number of its citizens opting for a different lifestyle in Italy.
The documentary also looks at the interesting and at times amusing process of adapting to life, language and customs in a "new” country. |
